355 Days in the Earth Bunker Re-construction of the story of the Resistance Fighters Johanna Grimming and Anna Winkler Part of a videoinstallation in Judenburg/AT, 2015 Anna Winkler (1912 - 1967) and her mother Johanna Grimming were members of the Judenburg resistance group against the Nazi regime. They delivered messages to remote groups in the mountains, provided underground fighters with food, and hid them in their house. In May 1944 they were betrayed to the Gestapo. They were warned just in time to hide in a small earth hole under their house. There they hid for 11 months, until the end of war. Johanna Grimming (1892 – 1985), was born in Rattenberg-Fohnsdorf. With her daughter Anna Winkler, she supported the resistance in „full awareness of the danger, there was only one thing for us: to help and continue to fight until the fall of the faschist dictatorship and therefore until the end of that pointless war.“ |
